Microducts for different installation conditions

Our selection includes a wide range of microducts, and we can also customize microducts to meet customer requirements. In this blog post, we present different types of microducts that we can manufacture.

Microducts

Microducts are manufactured at our factory in Estonia. Different countries use slightly different sizes of microducts and our selection currently covers microducts in sizes 7/3.5 – 25/21 mm. For our Finnish customers, we typically produce microducts in sizes of 7/3.5 and 14/10 mm.

The material used for the microducts is HDPE. Our high-quality microducts withstand temperature variations well and, when properly installed, serve customers for decades.

Microducts do not have an official CPR classification, but since they are made from HDPE, the classification corresponds to F-class. This means that outdoor microducts cannot be installed indoors beyond a maximum length of 5 meters.

Microducts for direct burial and installation in protective ducts

Microducts are installed either directly into the ground or into existing conduits. We manufacture microducts for both direct burial and installation in conduits.

Microducts intended for direct installation in protective ducts are labeled with "DI" (Direct Install). Installation in protective or cable ducts can be carried out either by pushing, pulling or blowing. DI microducts should not be installed directly into the ground.

Microducts for direct burial are marked with "DB" (Direct Buried), indicating that the product is suitable for direct ground installation. The installation can be done by digging, microtrenching or ploughing into stone-free soil using pre-plowing methods.

Microduct bundles

Our range includes microduct bundles, from small bundles with two microducts up to large bundles with over 20 microducts. Microduct bundles generally come with a tracer wire, which allows the bundle to be located underground.

Popular sizes in the Finnish market include bundles with two, four, seven, or twelve microducts. However, we have also manufactured more unique configurations for export. Examples of such configurations include bundles with eight and 22 microducts.

We can also combine microducts of different sizes into microduct bundles. Our selection includes, for example, a microduct bundle with both two 14/10 mm microducts and twelve 7/3.5 mm microducts (2x 14/10 + 12x 7/3.5).

Colour variations

In Finland, microducts and bundles are color-coded according to the FIN 2012 color system, but we can also produce microducts according to other color systems. A popular alternative is the ANSI/TIA color system.

We can also produce microducts with stripes or other markings according to customer needs.

Markings

Our microducts are typically marked every meter with: Nestor Cables – Optimus – DB/DI – microduct size – color sequence – production batch number – meter marking. However, we can add different types of markings to microducts as required by customers.

Special microducts

We can also manufacture microducts with special requirements. Our selection includes, for example, microducts reinforced with steel tape or equipped with support wires. We also offer microducts with an extra jacket (double sheathing).

Part of the Optimus product family

Microducts are part of our Optimus microduct product family. The product family includes, of course, microduct cables, but also accessories for microduct networks, such as various connectors. Explore the product family!
